One of the more unusual tasks to cleaning and removing mold damage in Florida homes is the demolition that it often involves. In many cases, this is minor, with only a few panels of drywall that needs to be pulled away to kill and remove the source of the mold spores infesting a home.
In other situations, the mold growth may have gone unnoticed for a long time. In homes like this, the restoration specialist you hired now has to remove many of the interior walls and ceilings to get rid of the mold. With this amount of infested building material, there is a much larger risk of spreading the mold spores throughout the home.
A professional mold damage restoration company can prevent this by isolating the affected areas from the rest of the home and then carefully remove the materials and any loose mold in the air or on the surfaces. Their technicians must start by sealing off entrances and exits with plastic sheeting. Once the area is isolated, they need to establish negative air pressure, which forces any airborne spores inside the home outside. Hopefully all the way to Lake Okeechobee or farther west into the Gulf.
Technicians can now move in and start pulling out the contaminated material. They should carefully break down the drywall panels into smaller sizes that can fit into thick, plastic bags. Once full, technicians need to seal the bags, wipe them free of any dust or lose spores, and remove them from home for disposal according to state and federal regulations.
With the affected drywall removed, technicians can now inspect the wall and ceiling frames for mold. Usually, the spores may cover the surfaces of the wood but rarely penetrate below it. If they do, technicians should know how to use wire brushes and sanders to scrape away the infested surfaces without causing structural damage. If the mold has deeply penetrated below the surface, the restoration company you hire should immediately explain the level of damage and recommend tearing out the affected framing without wasting time and resources that needlessly add to the total cost.
The goal of any restoration service you hire should be to return your home to its pre-mold condition as quickly as possible. Since this can involve demolition inside your residence, you need to hire a reputable company licensed and bonded to operate in Florida. After all, it is your home, and no one else wants to protect it more than you.
